Architect Registration Exams (General)

The Architect Registration Examination (ARE) assesses candidates for their knowledge, skills, and ability to provide the various services required in the practice of architecture. The ARE is the only examination prepared by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and has been adopted for use by all 55 U.S. member boards and the Canadian provincial architectural associations as the examination required of all candidates for architectural licensure. Colorado administers the National Council of Examiners For Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) examinations.

April exams are offered in Denver and Durango. October exams are offered in Denver and Grand Junction.

State Specific PLS Exam

The Colorado State Specific 1.5 hour Professional Land Surveyor Exam (COPLS) is a closed book exam administered by computer at proctored test sites. Please reference the following for complete information about this licensing examination:

NCEES Examinee Guide

The NCEES Examinee Guide is the official guide to policies and procedures for all NCEES exams. All examinees are required to read this document before starting the exam registration process. It is the examinee’s responsibility to make sure he or she has the current version. NCEES exams are administered in either a computer-based format or a pencil-and-paper format. Each method of administration has specific rules; the guide describes the rules for each exam format. Refer to the appropriate section for your exam. View the NCEES Examinee Guide.
