Welcome to the Electrical Homepage

The State Electrical Board licenses, registers, and regulates electricians, apprentices, and electrical contractors. The Board does not regulate communication systems, elevators or passenger conveyors, bridge or highway projects, or data processing systems. The Board's mission is to protect the health and safety of the people of Colorado by enforcing the state electrical statutes. The Board conducts regular inspections of the installations it regulates, and reviews special requests for exceptions to the code.

The Board is made up of nine professional and public members appointed by the governor.

Colorado State Electrical Board - Request for Written Comment Extended

The Colorado State Electrical Board is proposing a new policy, 3.3 - CONCERNING THE VARIANCE POLICY REGARDING ELECTRIC VEHICLE POWER INFRASTRUCTURE REQUIREMENTS FOR MULTIFAMILY BUILDINGS IN THE MODEL ELECTRIC READY AND SOLAR READY CODE. The purpose of the proposed policy is to clarify HB23-1233 that directed the Board to adopt rules requiring that a permit applicant comply with the EV power transfer infrastructure requirements for multifamily buildings in the Model Electric Ready and Solar Ready Code as required by section 12-115-107(3)(a), C.R.S.; and to further clarify the Board finds the variance process set forth in Chapter 1, Section 102 must be included with the EV power transfer infrastructure requirements for multifamily buildings. Please submit written comments by November 18, 2025, in order for your comments to be considered before the public policy hearing scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 9:30 A.M. Written comments will be posted on the website under the "Public Notices" tab as received for all stakeholders to access and review. The Board will not accept public testimony at the November 19, 2025 meeting. Feedback is limited to written comments that will be reviewed and discussed by the Board during the open meeting prior to a determination of whether the Board will adopt the proposed policy.

Legislative Updates

The Division of Professions and Occupations regulates more than 550,000 licensees, certificate holders and registrants. Each year, the General Assembly passes legislation directly impacting those populations. Many bills then require rulemaking or other policy updates by the Division or Boards in order to implement these changes. All relevant bills from the most recent legislative session have been combined onto a single webpage for easy access here. We encourage all licensees to read all bills directly impacting their profession(s). You may access the individual bills and summaries by visiting the link below:
