Colorado Natural Medicine CE
All Natural Medicine Facilitators and Clinical Facilitators holding an Active license with DORA must complete at least 20 hours of Continuing Education (CE) during each license period.
- CE requirements begin immediately upon licensure.
- CE hours must include at least 5 hours of ethic education.
- Active certification in Basic Life Support training must be maintained.
Audits of compliance are conducted after each license period ends.
Continuing Education Information
Requirements and Additional Information
Every license period, Natural Medicine Facilitators and Clinical Facilitators must complete at least 20 hours of Continuing Education (CE) related to the delivery of natural medicine services.
- CE must be completed through attendance at workshops, seminars, symposia, colloquia, invited speaker sessions, institutes, or scientific or professional programs offered at meetings of local, state, regional, national, or international professional or scientific organizations.
- Of the 20 CE hours, at least 5 hours must be in ethics education, as it relates to natural medicine.
- Up to 3 CE hours may be accrued from attendance at non-accredited programming or through bona-fide facilitator peer support groups that otherwise meet the requirements of CE.
- Bona-fide peer facilitator support group means a group of 3 or more licensed Facilitators or Clinical Facilitators that meet to discuss generally accepted standards of practice and anonymized experiences.
- There is no limit on the number of CE hours that may be completed online.
Basic Life Support
All actively licensed Colorado Natural Medicine Facilitators and Clinical Facilitators must maintain active certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) training at all times of licensure. All active licensees must maintain proof of their BLS certification for at least 4 years.
- The hours necessary to maintain this BLS certification may be used towards the CE hours required by Program Rule if they were completed during the license period.
Documentation Requirements
Licensees must maintain their own CE records for at least 4 years. Documentation must be a certificate of completion, transcript, or written notice (by the CE provider) that includes the following:
- Licensee's name
- Dates of the CE program
- Hours in attendance
- A synopsis of the course content (course title)
- Name of the course sponsor/provider
Documentation should not be submitted to the Board unless specifically requested.
Exception Options for Continuing Education
Below is a list of exceptions that may be requested. These are limited circumstances and require board approval:
- Military Exemption: A licensee requesting a military exemption to their licensing fees and CE requirements may visit DPO’s Military License Renewal Information webpage for more information.
