Regulation History and Board Member Information

Professional Review Governing Boards Information:

Professional Review Committees have historically addressed issues that relate to physicians. Changes to Colorado law have expanded that authority to include physician assistants, advanced practice nurses and certified midwives. If the Professional Review Committee makes recommendations or takes any final action related to a licensee, that action must be forwarded to the Colorado Medical Board or Colorado Nursing Board respectively. Information shared as a part of an investigation by a Professional Review Committee is confidential. Likewise, to encourage healthcare providers to serve on a Professional Review Committee, members are granted immunity from liability under state law.

Professional Review Governing Boards must be registered with the Division of Professions and Occupations. Registration must be completed within thirty (30) days after approving written bylaws, policies, or procedures. A Professional Review Governing Board that does not register with the Division of Professions and Occupations in this timeframe is not entitled to any immunity afforded under the Colorado Professional Review Act until the date the governing board so registers.

To satisfy the registration requirements, governing boards must register electronically using the Division of Professions and Occupations Professional Review Governing Board Registration System. The following data elements must be provided:

  • Governing board name
  • Governing board physical address
  • Governing board mailing address
  • Governing board Point of Contact which includes first and last name, title, phone number, and email address.
  • Governing board alternate point of contact which includes first and last name, title, phone number, and email address

Changes to any of the data elements must be updated within 30 days.

All Professional Review Governing Boards must submit an annual online report for activities occurring January 1 through December 31. For information on previous Annual Reports dating back to 2013, please contact the program at: dora_dpo_profreview@state.co.us

Legislative Updates

The Division of Professions and Occupations regulates more than 450,000 licensees, certificate holders and registrants. Each year, the General Assembly passes legislation directly impacting those populations. Many bills then require rulemaking or other policy updates by the Division or Boards in order to implement these changes. All relevant bills from the most recent legislative session have been combined onto a single webpage for easy access here. We encourage all licensees to read all bills directly impacting their profession(s). You may access the individual bills and summaries by visiting the link below:

Ex-Offenders Practice in Regulated Occupations

On June 4, 2024, Governor Polis signed HB24-1004 Ex-Offenders Practice in Regulated Occupations into law. Under this bill, if an applicant for a registration, certification, or license has a conviction for a crime, a regulator may only consider the applicant’s conviction for a three-year period beginning on the date of conviction or the end of incarceration, if the applicant has not been convicted of any other criminal offense during the three-year period. To learn more about this law and about how it may effect your application, please visit the Ex-Offenders Practice in Regulated Occupations information webpage.

Address Confidentiality Program (ACP)

The Address Confidentiality Program (ACP) is a statewide program administered by the Department of Personnel and Administration (DPA) that provides survivors of domestic violence, sexual offenses, and/or stalking with a legal substitute address for interacting with all state and local government agencies. To learn more about the ACP and how it can assist you in your licensure, please visit the Address Confidentiality Program information webpage.
