Military Spouse License Information

On June 25, 2020, Governor Polis signed House Bill 20-1326 into law which, among other things, creates a new opportunity for the qualified spouses of active duty military personnel to quickly and easily obtain an occupational or professional license in Colorado. Beginning January 1, 2021, the spouse of an active duty military member will be able to apply to the Division of Professions and Occupations (DPO) for a Military Spouse License in their profession or occupation.

A Military Spouse License is available to the spouse of an active duty member of the military who is stationed in Colorado for NO FEE. To qualify, military spouses must:

  1. Provide documentation of official orders for the active duty member;
  2. Hold an Active license in good standing in another U.S. state or territory in the profession which they are applying; and
  3. Have not received any disciplinary action under the laws and regulations governing their profession or occupation

Military Spouse Licenses are valid for three (3) years from the date of issuance and may not be renewed. If a military spouse plans on practicing in Colorado longer than three years, they must apply for a full license through the Division and meet all qualifications and requirements.
