Welcome to the Accountancy Homepage

The Colorado Board of Accountancy regulates certified public accountants (CPAs). CPAs perform a variety of accounting services and will often have the CPA designation after their name. The Board does not regulate accountants, public accountants, tax preparers, or enrolled agents. Accountants and public accountants are not regulated by any federal or state agency, however, there are professional associations who may be able to assist you. Tax preparers and enrolled agents are regulated by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

Stakeholder Meeting - August 18, 2023

The State Board of Accountancy held a Stakeholder Meeting on August 18, 2023, to received feedback from stakeholders regarding proposed changes to the Board's rules. The purpose of the proposed changes to the State Board of Accountancy’s Rule 1.5(F) is to make the Board’s rules consistent with national standards and to implement Colorado Senate Bill 23-265 (Concerning a Prohibition on a Regulator Imposing Discipline against a Person Based on Certain Activities Involving Marijuana) by repealing Rule 1.16 (Protecting Colorado’s Workforce and Expanding Licensing Opportunities).

 

Emergency & Permanent Rulemaking Hearing - September 21, 2022

The State Board of Accountancy will hold an Emergency and Permanent Rulemaking Hearing to allow stakeholders a final opportunity to provide testimony before the Board considers adopting the proposed new Rule 1.16, to implement Executive Order D 2022-034 (Protecting Colorado’s Workforce and Expanding Licensing Opportunities). The Board will consider the proposed rule on an emergency and permanent basis, to comply with the Governor’s 90-day reporting requirements.

 

Permanent Rulemaking Hearing - August 3, 2022

The State Board of Accountancy will hold a Permanent Rulemaking Hearing to allow stakeholders a final opportunity to provide testimony before the Board considers adopting the proposed revisions to Rule 1.8, to implement Colorado Senate Bill 22-116 (Concerning the ability of an individual to obtain an occupational credential through the occupational credential portability program).

 

Permanent Rulemaking Hearing - May 11, 2022

The State Board of Accountancy will hold a Permanent Rulemaking Hearing to allow stakeholders a final opportunity to provide testimony before the Board considers adopting the proposed changes throughout the State Board of Accountancy’s rules pursuant to the rule review mandated by section 24-4-103.3, C.R.S. The purpose of the rule review is to assess the continuing need, appropriateness, and cost-effectiveness of the rules to determine if they should be continued in their current form, modified, or repealed.

 

Permanent Rulemaking Hearing - September 22, 2021

The State Board of Accountancy held a Permanent Rulemaking Hearing on September 22, 2021, that allowed stakeholders a final opportunity to provide feedback before the Board considered adopting revisions to the Rule 1.6(B), to implement Colorado Senate Bill 21-077 (Concerning the elimination of verification of an individual's lawful presence in the United States as a requirement for individual credentialing).
