Which License Should I Apply For?

LPP​ (Provisional​ ​License)

For individuals working solely for a ​Residential Child Care Facility (RCF). 

 

LPCC ​(Temporary Permit) 

For applicants on the LPC licensure track. One-time registration good for 4 years to allow enough time to complete the NCE and Post-Degree Experience and Supervision. 

 

LPC (Original License by Examination)

For applicants obtaining licensure at the highest level as a "first-timer." Must have completed NCE and Post-Degree hours. 

 

LPC (Original License by Endorsement)

For applicants licensed as an LPC at the highest level in another state. 

Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC) Registration
  • Applicants for licensure by endorsement must hold a current, equivalent license in another state.
  • Upon approval and issuance of the LPC, MFT, or PSY Candidate Registration temporary permit, candidates may practice psychotherapy while accruing post-degree supervised experience (PDSE) hours for licensure.
  • Candidates will be required to comply with all the requirements outlined in the candidate applications, including review by the appropriate board for any "yes" answers for screening questions and approval for education and education equivalency.
  • Candidates are not required to be registered as a Registered Psychotherapist and are regulated by the specific Board for their profession. After a candidate has completed the required hours for licensure, he or she must submit a separate application and fee to obtain licensure.

Licensed Professional Counselor Provisional (LPP) License
  • Provisional licensure is available to marriage and family therapists, professional counselors, psychologists and social workers who have education appropriate to their fields and who work under supervision in a residential child care facility.

License Expiration Bump Period for New Applicants: All new applicants who are issued a license within 120 days of the upcoming renewal expiration date will be issued a license with the next expiration date.

License Renewal Information: All Licensed Professional Counselor licenses expire on August 31 of odd-numbered years. View your expiration date on your online account. Please note that renewals open approximately six weeks prior to the expiration date.
