Landscape Architects HOME
Welcome to the Landscape Architects Homepage
The State Board of Landscape Architects regulates and licenses landscape architects. The Board does not regulate or require registration of landscape architect firms or landscape designers, installers, or contractors. The Board's mission is to safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of the people of Colorado by preventing the improper design of public domain landscape infrastructure by unauthorized, unqualified, and incompetent persons.
Board activities include examining and licensing landscape architects, investigating complaints about landscape architects, and disciplining violators of the law and/or the Board's rules. The Board is made up of five members: three from the profession and two public members. The Board works closely with national organizations such as the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB).

Board of Landscape Architects - Request for Stakeholder Written Comments
The Colorado Board of Landscape Architects is requesting feedback regarding Revisions to Rule 1.4 – Abbreviations and Definitions, and 1.6 – Rules of Administrative Procedure. Please provide your feedback and opinion on Revising Board Rules to incorporate the CLARB Uniform Standards where the Board’s Rules differ. More specifically, please refer to the following:
- Board Rule 1.6(B) - Amend its regulations to explicitly recognize degrees accredited by the Landscape Architecture Accreditation Council (LAAC) or an international equivalent and Board Rule 1.4(A) – Update abbreviation for LAAC;
- Board Rule 1.6(A)(h) – Reference relevant section of the rule 1.6(B);
- Board Rules 1.6(A)(1)(g) through (i) – The CLARB Uniform Standard requires a total of ten years of experience/combined experience for those without a LAAB degree; comparatively Colorado limits these requirements to six years of combined experience; and,
- Board Rules 1.4(B) - Definitions.
Please review the 2023 LA Licensure by Exam Requirements, the Relevant Rules and the CLARB Uniform Licensure Standard for Landscape Architecture 2022. Please submit written comments to dora_dpo_rulemaking@state.co.us. Written comments will be posted on the Board's website, under the "Public Notices" tab, as received for all stakeholders to access and review.
- Legislative Updates
The Division of Professions and Occupations regulates more than 550,000 licensees, certificate holders and registrants. Each year, the General Assembly passes legislation directly impacting those populations. Many bills then require rulemaking or other policy updates by the Division or Boards in order to implement these changes. All relevant bills from the most recent legislative session have been combined onto a single webpage for easy access here. We encourage all licensees to read all bills directly impacting their profession(s). You may access the individual bills and summaries by visiting the link below:
