Office of Acupuncture Licensure: Program Information

Zen Mayhugh, Program Director On behalf of the Director of the Division of Professions and Occupations, the Colorado Office of Acupuncture Licensure (Office) regulates individual licensed acupuncturists in the State of Colorado. Office activities include licensing acupuncturists, investigating complaints, and enforcing disciplinary actions against those who violate the Acupuncturists Practice Act and the Director’s Rules and Regulations. The mission of the Office is to maintain the profession’s integrity and protect its consumers.

Military Spouse License Information

On June 25, 2020, Governor Polis signed House Bill 20-1326 into law which, among other things, creates a new opportunity for the qualified spouses of active duty military personnel to quickly and easily obtain an occupational or professional license in Colorado. Beginning January 1, 2021, the spouse of an active duty military member will be able to apply to the Division of Professions and Occupations (DPO) for a Military Spouse License in their profession or occupation.

License Portability Program

For individuals with current, active licenses, registrations, or certifications issued by another state, U.S. territory, or foreign country, state statute allows application for licensure, registration, or certification by a process known as endorsement. On June 25, 2020, Gov. Polis signed HB 20-1326 into law.

Immigrant Licensure Information

Colorado has a diverse, growing immigrant population. While the Division recognizes the contributions immigrants make to the state, the duty to protect the public health and welfare in some cases requires immigrant applicants to fulfill additional requirements as part of the licensure process. For example, as a foreign-trained or foreign-credentialed applicant, you must be prepared to have all of your foreign education, training, and professional credentials evaluated and translated (as necessary) by a third-party credential evaluation organization.

Collateral Consequences Licensure Information

The Division takes its responsibility to protect the public health and welfare very seriously, and as such, applications for licensure from individuals with criminal histories are given close scrutiny to ensure the applicant will not pose a threat to the public. However, the Division also takes very seriously the state’s strong commitment to helping individuals with criminal histories successfully reenter society and to honoring their rehabilitation.
