Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners - Requesting Written Stakeholder Comments
What is this about?
The Colorado State Board of Psychologist Examiners is proposing revisions to Rule 1.20 – CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (C.R.S. § 12-245-307) and Rule 1.24 - CONCERNING THE AUTHORITY OF A LICENSED PSYCHOLOGIST TO PRESCRIBE PSYCHOTROPIC MEDICATION FOR THE TREATMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH DISORDERS. The purpose of the proposed rules is to clarify the continuing professional development requirements for prescribing psychologists as required by section 12-245-309(2)(b)(II), C.R.S.; and to further clarify the regulatory scheme for the prescription of controlled substances by prescribing psychologists. Please submit written comments by September 19, 2025, in order for your comments to be considered before the public rulemaking hearing scheduled for Friday, October 3, 2025, at 9:30 A.M. Written comments will be posted on the website under the "Public Notices" tab as received for all stakeholders to access and review.
The Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT) Commission has published Proposed Rules for consideration and comment. The Proposed Rules can be found HERE.
The proposed rules are being considered to:
- Add a residency definition as specified in the PSYPACT Legislation (Article IV B 2 j and Article V B 2 j).
- Provide a better understanding of the grounds on which an authorization application can be denied, or a previously issued authorization can be revoked, by providing clear grounds for denying or revoking a PSYPACT authorization.
- Expand the appeals process to cover denials and revocations separately for clarity.
- Revise the numbering of the entire rule to align the new additions better.
These Proposed Rules are open for a 60-day public comment period for stakeholders interested in providing comments. Written comments may be submitted to the PSYPACT Commission via the PSYPACT website (https://psypact.gov/page/PublicComment). The deadline for submission of written comments is October 3, 2025.
- Legislative Updates
The Division of Professions and Occupations regulates more than 550,000 licensees, certificate holders and registrants. Each year, the General Assembly passes legislation directly impacting those populations. Many bills then require rulemaking or other policy updates by the Division or Boards in order to implement these changes. All relevant bills from the most recent legislative session have been combined onto a single webpage for easy access here. We encourage all licensees to read all bills directly impacting their profession(s). You may access the individual bills and summaries by visiting the link below:
