The State Board of Nursing is responsible for enforcing statutes, rules and policies as implemented by the Nurse Practice Act, Nurse Aide Practice Act, and the Licensed Psychiatric Technician Practice Act. Board staff oversee education, licensing, and enforcement of nurses, nurse aides, and licensed psychiatric technicians. The State Board of Nursing oversees more than 110,000 licensees.

Permanent Rulemaking Hearing – October 23, 2024
The purpose of this Rulemaking Hearing is for the Board to decide on proposed revisions to Rule 1.9 – RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE IN RELATION TO IV AUTHORITY – The purpose is to determine whether the Rule is needed and to clarify the definition of premixed and administration of IV antibiotics; Rule 1.12 – RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR APPROVAL OF MEDICATION AIDE TRAINING PROGRAMS (revision to Rule 1.12 C.6 or add a waiver to Rule 1.12) – The purpose is to address the need for long term care facilities on the Medicare/Medicaid loss list to be able to host medication aide training; Rule 1.14 – RULES AND REGULATIONS TO REGISTER PROFESSIONAL NURSES QUALIFIED TO ENGAGE IN ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSING – The purpose is to edit the Rule; Rule 1.15 – RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR PRESCRIPTIVE AUTHORITY FOR ADVANCED PRACTICE REGISTERED NURSES – The purpose is to clarify the mentorship requirement for APRNs applying for prescriptive authority; Rule 1.18 – RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE IN RELATION TO MEDICATION AIDE AUTHORITY – The purpose is to come into compliance with the portability act; Rule 1.28 – RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR LICENSURE OF CERTIFIED MIDWIVES; and Rule 1.29 – RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR PRESCRIPTIVE AUTHORITY FOR CERTIFIED MIDWIVES – The purpose is to clarify the rules and to be consistent with Statute.
